Black-Tie Preferred
-
A black-tie wedding requires guests to wear either a tuxedo, dark suit, or evening dress. Black-tie means fancy. This is the preferred dress code for our guests. Elegant, formal attire is required.
-
Evening gowns, formal cocktail dresses, or a dressy sheath from fine fabrics are all standard and appropriate fare for a black-tie preferred wedding. As for colors, all colors are fair game except for white, off-white, anything close to white, or anything that is primarily and prominently white. When styling your look, consider an overall elegant appeal.
It is recommended that you pair your outfit with accessories to elevate the look even further. For shoes, options include heels, peep-toe stilettos, heeled sandals, dressy flats, and loafers, depending on your preference. As for accessories, you can’t go wrong with sparkly jewelry and an embellished clutch.
-
Although a tuxedo is not required, one can still be worn if preferred. If opting for a suit, a formal dark suit, white shirt, and conservative tie are an appropriate combination. A nice black, gray, or navy suit paired with a dark colored bow tie or neck tie are all appropriate as well.
-
Not all female guests want to wear a dress, and as such, jumpsuits have come a long way in recent years. Similar to cocktail dresses, make sure whatever style you choose feels elevated enough for an upscale event. We recommend avoiding styles with busy patterns or neon colors.
It is one-hundred percent acceptable to wear black to a black-tie preferred wedding. In general, darker colors are considered more formal.
Here are some things to avoid…
- White, off-white, or anything close to white as a dress.
- Anything too short or excessively revealing in bad-taste.
- Jeans, t-shirts, and sneakers.
- Anything too flashy or sparkly.
- Brightly colored or patterned dress shirts.
- A pocket square that is too flashy.
- An unkempt appearance.
